GuidesFollow up and contacts
Follow-up email after a job application
Send one short follow up if you have not heard back after about a week (or the timeline they gave). Name the role, ask about status, offer one line of value, and stop there until they reply.
When to send
Wait for their stated timeline. If they gave none, about a week is a common default. Earlier only if they invited questions.
What to include
Role title, date you applied (if useful), one sentence of interest or fit, and a clear ask: status or next step.
Keep it under a short paragraph. No attachments unless they asked.
What to skip
Do not guilt-trip, do not send daily nudges, and do not paste your full cover letter again.
In PostApply, review the draft and approve before anything leaves your mailbox.
Know what to do after you apply.
Log the role, match replies to the right job, and follow up once. You approve every send.
